Abstract

Upstart Magazine was “the arts magazine of Barnard College and Columbia University,” published annually at Barnard. Its purpose was “to expose and give recognition to new artists and journalists.” The magazine, with work by students, faculty, and alumni, featured articles about art (theatre, music, etc.), as well as interviews with artists students’ art (photography, poems, etc.) for one issue (1979), the magazine was renamed The Paper Ladle, but this lasted for only the one issue.
